Hugh has defended health care providers since earning his law degree from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 2013. He also has experience working in general litigation defense having represented other professionals accused of civil liability. While in law school, he served as the executive director of the Student Bar Association and won the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Legal Writing. Since law school, he has been involved in the Memphis Bar Association’s health law section where he has served as secretary, vice chairman, and chairman. He is a fellow of the Memphis Bar Foundation and member of the Leo Bearman, Sr. American Inns of Court. The Super Lawyers patented selection process has recognized him as a rising star on a yearly basis since 2020 while the Best Lawyers peer review guide recognized him as “Ones to Watch in America” in 2024 for work in medical malpractice law – defendants.

  • Summary judgment obtained in favor of an ophthalmologist accused of improperly monitoring a patient following a photorefractive keratectomy.

Interests

When not practicing law, Hugh enjoys spending time with his wife, Natalie, and their son. He enjoys golfing, fishing, hunting, and competing on an award-winning barbeque cooking team. He is a passionate fan of the Memphis Grizzlies and St. Louis Cardinals. He and Natalie are very active in church where they regularly volunteer at monthly “rEcess” events for the 99 Balloons ministry.
