April 1st, 2011

Memphis, TN (April 1X, 2011)– High school students from throughout the Memphis area will learn about healthcare law and other health-related career choices at the Health Profession Information Session on Tuesday, April 19. Attorney Cory A. Brown, a member of the healthcare practice at Rainey, Kizer, will be discussing howhealthcare reform has created new opportunities for young professionals at the event presented by the Memphis Chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE).

“Our goal is to give minority students insight into a wide range of healthcare careers, not just physicians and nurses, but healthcare attorneys, hospital administrators, respiratory therapists, and other professionals they may not be as familiar with,” said Chapter President-Elect Jonathan Watkins, assistant administrator at Methodist Hospital North.

Among those attending the event at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital will be students from area high schools including Hamilton, Kingsbury, Trezevant, and the Southwest Career Technical Center. In addition to the presentations, participants will receive a tour of the new hospital building.

“Despite our staggering economy, the healthcare industry will continue to grow. As the varying elements of healthcare reform unfold over the next decade, there will be an increased demand for non-physician professionals such as attorneys, executives and accountants ” said Brown. “I want to encourage more students to consider these career options.”

Brown is a cum laude graduate of the University of Memphis School of Law, where he received the Cecil C. Humphreys Law Fellowship and served as Notes Editor of the school’s law review.
