Rainey Kizer’s Dexter Advises Memphis Chamber Members on Employment Law Issues

Memphis, TN (November 14, 2013) – Latosha Dexter, an employment law attorney based in the Memphis office of Rainey, Kizer, Reviere & Bell PLC (Rainey Kizer), advised Memphis business leaders and human resources executives participating in the Memphis Chamber of Commerce’s HR Legal Summit on how to comply with federal hiring guidelines and provided some practical tips on recruitment and hiring.

Dexter joined with Kathi Kores, Director of the U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Memphis District Office, to address the topic “Recruiting and Hiring: A Top Priority for the EEOC.”  The EEOC recently published its list of enforcement priorities for the next five years, and high on its list is the elimination of barriers to hiring for the populations it protects.

According to Dexter, employers must exercise caution throughout every step of the hiring process such as advertising job openings, preparing job applications and job descriptions, and establishing job-related criteria for the use of criminal background checks.

At Rainey Kizer, Dexter’s practice focuses on employment law, including discrimination claims and civil rights, municipal law, and education law.  She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources and writes regularly on employment law issues for HR Professionals magazine.  Dexter is a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Law, where she was the Student Materials Editor of the Tennessee Law Review.   She is a Barrister in the Leo Bearman Sr. American Inn of Court and was recently recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in the area of Employment Litigation – Defense.

The Memphis Bar Association, the Society for Human Resource Executives – Memphis Chapter, and the Memphis Better Business Bureau partnered with the Chamber in organizing the event.
